The University of Texas at Austin

In addition to submitting a complete application for admission, transfer applicants to the College of Natural Sciences (including those to Computer Sciences and Pharmacy) should also review the following information regarding special application requirements and admission restrictions.

Admission to Entry-level Majors

All Natural Sciences students are admitted to entry-level majors for the field they wish to study. After completing some of the courses required for the degree, each student selects the major and the option he or she plans to pursue.

Math Readiness

Transfer applicants to the College of Natural Sciences are expected to be prepared to enroll in mathematics courses beyond M408C, Calculus I. Refer to the online resources about transferable coursework for details about which courses are transferable.

Applicants who meet the requirement by the application deadline will receive priority consideration. Applicants with additional math and science credentials also receive priority consideration.

UT Austin teaches calculus in a two-semester sequence, M408C and M408D. If you submit transferable coursework from a college or university that also teaches calculus in two courses, then you can demonstrate math readiness by completing or having in progress an equivalent one-semester course. If, however, the college or university from which you submit transferable coursework teaches calculus in a three-semester sequence, you must complete the first two semesters of the sequence to demonstrate math readiness. Refer to the transfer equivalency guides for details about how the courses you are taking or plan to take will transfer.

Pharmacy

Transfer applicants interested in studying pharmacy (even applicants who already hold an undergraduate degree) must apply for admission to the undergraduate pre-pharmacy program in the College of Natural Sciences. Applicants who have the prerequisite coursework and the GPA needed to apply to the Pharm.D. program at the time they apply for admission should also complete the Pharm.D. application. Review the Special Instructions to find out about the Pharm.D. application requirements.

Students who are interested in the Pharm.D. program but who do not have the coursework needed to apply to the program at the time they apply for admission are able to take the prerequisite coursework as pre-pharmacy majors if they are admitted to the university. Once they complete the prerequisite coursework, they are then able to apply to the Pharm.D. program in the College of Pharmacy as enrolled UT Austin students.
