Requirements and restrictions for the College of Communication
In addition to submitting a complete application for admission, transfer applicants to the College of Communication should also review the following information regarding special application requirements and admission restrictions.
- The College of Communication offers admission only to the most highly qualified applicants; enrollment is limited.
- Newly admitted Communication students must begin their studies in the fall semester.
School of Journalism
All applicants who plan to enter the journalism program must apply for admission to the University as pre-journalism majors. To continue as journalism students, students admitted to pre-journalism apply for admission to a concentration in broadcast journalism, multimedia journalism, or photojournalism or to one of the three sequences in the print journalism concentration—newspaper reporting and writing, magazine writing and editing, and copy editing and design.
The student should apply for admission to a concentration or sequence while taking or upon completing Journalism 315. Admission decisions for each concentration or sequence are made by the head of that area.
Contact the School of Journalism at 512-471-1845 to find out more about requirements for the professional journalism program.
