A UT EID is an electronic identifier that helps prospective and current students to stay connected to their university information. With your EID and password, you can access secure information and complete secure tasks online.
Things You Can Do with an EID
- Log in to obtain targeted messages and notifications about events that match your interests or are scheduled in your area, such as college nights and day visits.
- Access your secure admission, honors program, financial aid, and housing information.
- Check the status of your admission and housing applications.
- Find out what you need to submit to complete your application.
- Learn of your admission decision as soon as it’s made.
- Register for events on campus for prospective freshmen, such as Longhorn Saturday and Rise and Shine.
- Access student services, claim financial aid, register for classes, and pay your bills after you’re admitted.
Protecting Your Information Access
To maintain easy access to your secure, personal information, you should remember your EID and password, keep them secure, and follow the university’s guidelines about their use.
Getting an EID
There are two ways for you to obtain a UT EID.
- The university assigns you an EID if you initiate contact in some way. For example, if you designate UT Austin as a score recipient when you take the SAT or ACT, we’ll create a record to house your score and an EID to go along with your information.
- You can get on our mailing list (which also means you’ll get an EID). The process creates a record for you based on the information you submit to us online. You’ll receive your EID and select your own password. If and when you submit additional information to us (such as an application or test scores) after you’re signed up, we’ll use a system to match your new information with your existing record.
EID Do’s and Don’ts
Things you should do when using your EID
- Remember your EID and password and keep them secure. They’re your key to information access. (Attempting to create a new EID if you know you already have one may cause additional trouble.)
- Select and provide a single valid e-mail address for communication with UT Austin; doing so will allow you to receive assistance by e-mail if you have trouble using your EID. If your e-mail address changes, use your EID and password to log in to update your information.
- When you’re notified that we’ve assigned an EID to you, log in and change your password as soon as possible; doing so will make it possible for you to receive assistance by e-mail if you have trouble using your EID.
- If you know you have an EID but you can’t remember it or your password, use the UT EID Self-Service Tools. If you aren’t able to find the answers you’re looking for online, call 512-475-7387 for additional assistance.
Things you shouldn’t do when using your EID
- Don’t try to sign up for an EID if you think you already have one. Doing so will only complicate things by creating two records for your information. The UT EID Self-Service Tools may be able to send you your EID and password by e-mail (if we have a valid e-mail address for you). If the online system can’t solve your problem, call Customer Service at 512-475-7387.
- Don’t try to log in using an old password. Attempting to log in three or more times with a password that is no longer valid will lock you out of the system.
- Don’t let anyone else use your EID and password to log in for you. If your parent or guardian wants access to your information, you can grant them access through the university’s eProxy system.
Parents and EIDs
Parents and guardians often want to help their son or daughter complete an online process (such as paying a fee). But it isn’t a good idea to simply share your EID or password with your parent for them to use. Doing so can cause numerous issues and complicate things in the long run.
But there is a solution. To help make it possible for parents to be part of the application process, the university has created a system through which a student can designate someone else to do things for them without sharing their EID and password. The system is called eProxy.
