Music

The College of Fine Arts offers a variety of Longhorn Music Camps for students in middle school and high school. Ages and dates vary per camp.

Theatre & Dance

The Department of Theatre and Dance offers various Summer Youth Programs for elementary, middle school, and high school students. Ages and dates vary per camp.

The Blanton Museum of Art offers K-12 programs and tours year-round.

Other Events

Lifelong Learning, the Performing Arts Center’s education program, offers year-round informal settings to meet and learn from our visiting artists. Events such as post-performance Q&A's, workshops, master classes, lecture demonstrations, community potlucks and youth performances are available for K-12 students, adults and seniors, and occur on the UT campus as well as at community centers around Austin.

Media & Technology Camps

RTF Media Camps

The RTF Media Camps, run by the Department of Radio-Television-Film, are for 7th – 12th graders interested in digital filmmaking and post-production effects. Ages and dates vary per camp.

Texas Student Television

Texas Student Television, the student television station at The University of Texas, offers news and production camps/workshops for middle and high school students. Students will learn all about TV news, or how to produce an entertainment program or music video show.

iD Tech Computer Camps

This summer, send your child to iD Tech Camps, a fun, educational technology camp right on UT Austin’s beautiful campus, as well as 60 other universities nationwide.  During this weeklong, day and overnight program, ages 7-17 design websites with Flash®, create video games, film digital movies, learn programming, build robots and more.  Visit http://www.internalDrive.com or call 1-888-709-TECH (8324) for more information and see specials.  You can also download a PDF of the catalog, which includes the Teen Academy programs for ages 13-18.

Academic Camps

Architecture

The Summer Academy in Architecture is an intensive program that provides unique insights into both an architectural education and the architectural profession. The Academy is geared toward people who have little-to-no background in architecture and who wish to test and refine their interests in the field.

Business

The McCombs School of Business is offering High School Student Summer Programs for socially or economically disadvantaged high school students or students who will be the first members of their families to attend college. The programs are for students interested in pursuing a career in the business field.

Programs offered:

Engineering

  • YOU@UT is a one-day event for high school senior women interested in math, science or engineering. The program provides an opportunity to explore your interests through sessions (tours, presentations, and activities), learn about UT and the majors offered by the Cockrell School of Engineering, and learn about UT's admission application, housing and scholarship processes.
  • Careers in Engineering for Women (CEW) is a weeklong summer camp for middle school girls designed to increase the representation of women in engineering and technical fields.
  • Encounter with Engineering is a day-long program introducing high school females to the different engineering fields and is a great opportunity for them to find out about engineering, what they can do with the degree, and talk to engineering students and professionals.
  • Consider Every Option (CEO) is a hands-on multi-day camp that exposes high school women to the exciting field of engineering. Students may choose to attend any one or more of the five topic–focused days.
  • WE@UT, held in conjunction with the University Honors Colloquium, is a program held for high school senior women interested in math, science or engineering who are invited to the Honors Colloquium. Students will be introduced to a variety of engineering studies and career options, and be exposed to female engineering role models.
  • Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day (Girl Day) is a program for 1st – 8th grade girls where they will have the opportunity to do grade-specific, hands-on engineering activities, meet students, professors and engineers in the industry and see what it’s like to be an engineer. Girl Day is on February 21, 2009.

Geosciences

GeoFORCE Texas is a summer program that rewards outstanding students from select South Texas Independent School Districts and Houston schools from grades 8-12 with the chance to travel the country, meet inspiring people, and learn about opportunities for careers in the geosciences.

Natural Sciences

  • Expanding Your Horizons is a program for 4th – 8th grade girls who will spend the day participating in fun-filled, hands-on workshops led by professional women who have careers in math, science, engineering and technology fields.
  • First Bytes is a one-week residential camp program for high school girls. It is designed to dispel myths about computer science and intrigue young women with the potential of computing and the excitement of problem solving.
  • Science Olympiad is a competition for central Texas middle and high school students to qualify for the national Science Olympiad competition.
  • Young Scientists is a program that engages the interest of AISD children from underrepresented groups to pursue science as an academic or professional pursuit. Outreach provides mentoring, field trips, community involvement summer camps, and hands-on science activities.
  • Saturday Morning Math Group is an outreach program aimed at junior high and high school students, their teachers, and their parents. The group meets about four times per semester on Saturday mornings.
  • The Austin Math Circle is a math and problem-solving club for students in the Austin area. Each month, the club unites for an in-depth exploration of a topic from algebra, geometry, number theory, combinatorics, probability, or logic.

Sports Camps

UT Athletics

UT Athletics offers summer camps for all ages in a variety of sports. Ages and dates vary per camp.

Division of Recreational Sports

The Division of Recreational Sports provides a variety of youth camps open to the community, including Soccer Camp, Lacrosse Camp, and Ultimate Disc Camp. Ages and dates vary per camp.

Summer Sports School

The Summer Sports School-SUCCESS CAMP program, held by the Department of Kinesiology & Health Education, offers a unique experience for children ages 8-14 in the Austin area.

UT Aquatic Safety Program

The UT Aquatic Safety Program is offering courses in health and safety to anyone in Austin and surrounding communities. Ages and dates vary per course.

Leadership Camps

Global Ethics and Conflict Resolution HS Summer Symposium

Global Ethics and Conflict Resolution HS Summer Symposium is a unique University program for high school students combining academics, service, research, and a taste of life in a private dorm. Some of the activities include: making videos, writing songs, posting an Internet magazine, participating in university faculty lectures and workshops, meeting community and student leaders, conducting a service project, and much more! Speakers will cover topics such as Negotiation Theory, Music and Art, Human Rights, Religion and Culture, Current Events, Individual Responsibility, and Community.

Other Learning Opportunities

K-16 Education Center

The K-16 Education Center, a Division of Continuing Education at The University of Texas at Austin, offers various programs that allow students the flexibility to work outside the traditional physical and temporal educational environments.

Programs offered:

  • K-16 Curriculum: A web-based high school which allows students to work at their own pace. Courses written and instructed by Texas-certified teachers.
  • Lucha Program: LUCHA (Language Learners at the University of Texas at Austin’s Center for Hispanic Achievement) is an innovative K-16 Education Center initiative designed to help secondary Spanish-speaking English language learners transition into public schools, thereby helping them to achieve success in school, college, and life.
  • Migrant Program: Migrant Student Graduation Enhancement Program is to help Texas migrant students graduate from high school by providing opportunities to earn credit at any time and any place.
  • UT High School: UT High School offers a state-approved educational alternative to students who want to earn a high school diploma and need, or prefer, the flexibility of distance education to complete their course work.

Young Writer’s Camp

The Heart of Texas Writing Project at The University of Texas at Austin offers summer writing camp opportunities. Ages and dates vary per camp.

Informal Classes

UT’s Informal Classes offers a variety of classes and learning opportunities during the summer, and throughout the year, for learners of all ages.
