Q: Where are you from?
A:
I grew up in Cypress, Texas, a rapidly growing suburb just outside of Houston. Cypress is where I call home; however, my family relocated to Seattle, Washington during my junior and senior years of high school. While it was a bit difficult moving to another state, it was a great learning and growing experience. Nevertheless, I am a Texan! As soon as I graduated, I decided to move back to Texas for college.

Q: Where did you go to college and what did you study?
A:
I attended The University of Texas at San Antonio my freshman year and then transferred to Austin Community College and then to The University of Texas at Austin. I majored in Corporate Communication in the College of Communication. What attracted me to this major was that it could be applied to a broad range of careers and has helped with my success in different organizations.

Q: What do you look forward to about admissions counseling?
A:
As an admissions counselor, I enjoy talking with prospective students during an extremely important and life-changing time in their lives. The admissions process may be overwhelming for prospective students and parents and I’m glad I can help ease their nerves by answering their questions, addressing their concerns and assisting them in any way I can.

Q: What is your favorite UT Austin fact?
A:
As a communication major, I have to give a little shout-out to my college - the largest and most comprehensive communication college in the country!

Q: What are some of your favorite things to do in Austin?
A:
Austin is very big on supporting local business. One of my favorite things to do while in Austin is try out the different shops, diners, and restaurants. Many are incredibly unique and full of personality.

Also, Austin is such a beautiful city, it is no wonder there are so many great outdoor activities and festivals. Mount Bonnell, Zilker Park, and Barton Springs Pool are a few great outdoor spots. Austin City Limits (ACL), The Kite Festival, the Old Pecan Street Festival, and South by Southwest (SXSW) are only a handful of the many different activities going on every year in Austin.

Advice to Students

  • Think, research, ask. Start thinking about college early, do your research, and ask a lot of questions.
  • Get involved. UT has more than 900 student organizations, so there is bound to be one for you. You can gain so much more from them than you may initially think.
  • Study for success. Although you may have made it through high school without having to open a single book or study for tests, it really is essential to your success at UT.
  • Have fun! UT has so much to offer outside the classroom.
