The University of Texas at Austin

After you submit all the items needed to complete your freshman application for admission, the Office of Admissions will review your application in order to make your admission decision.

  • Some applications are reviewed to determine whether the applicant qualifies for automatic admission under Texas law.
  • Applicants who do qualify for automatic admission may also have their applications reviewed holistically to determine which major they will be admitted to.
  • Applications from all students who are not eligible for automatic admission are reviewed holistically so that an admission decision can be made.

While You Wait

While you wait for your admission decision, here are some things you may want to do to prepare.

Things to do while you wait

Status Check

Log in to your Application Status Check page using your UT EID and password.

Be sure that Status Check indicates that your application is complete. If something you submitted doesn’t show up within a reasonable amount of time, you may want to send another copy or check with us to find out why.

While you’re there, you can also check on the status of your honors application and your housing application.

Update your Be a Longhorn profile

Many offices on campus, including admissions and housing, send periodic updates and reminders by e-mail.

Be sure to check your Be a Longhorn Profile periodically and update your contact/e-mail information whenever necessary.

Update your application

Send us information about any significant updates or changes to your application before the deadline. For instance, if you retake the SAT/ACT exam and make a higher score, be sure to send us an official copy of your latest score report by the deadline.

See about other processes

Begin or complete any other UT Austin-related processes such as applying for housing, honors programs, scholarships, or financial aid. You can also see about any additional testing that you might need for placement purposes.

Your admission decision will be posted on your Status Check page as soon as it’s made. We’ll also mail your decision to your permanent address.
