What to do when you’ve been Denied Admission
Space in each year’s freshman class is limited. As a result the application process is competitive, and each year many applicants are disappointed to learn that they have been denied admission.
If you are denied admission to UT Austin but still hope to be a Longhorn, you may want to consider alternative options for gaining admission:
- Attend another college or university first and apply for transfer admission. UT Austin admits hundreds of transfer students each year. You’ll have to complete 30 hours of transferable coursework at another college or university to be considered for admission.
- Apply for freshman admission again in a future semester. If you don’t attend another college or university first, you may reapply for admission as a freshman for future semesters. However, unless new information is added to an application, decisions from one application cycle to the next are usually consistent.
- Consider UT Austin for your graduate studies. Many students who attend other colleges or universities for their undergraduate degrees become Longhorns by applying for admission to one of our hundreds of graduate programs.
